76-year-old league bowler scores 865 series with Brunswick
John Scaia, 76, of Syracuse, N.Y., loves bowling and his Monday travel league. He recently decided to put on a show for his teammates and community. He went to Lakeview Recreation, a well known center in the area, with hope that a new ball would give him higher scores. The 40-year-old, 16-lane center yields some of the best scores and highest league members in the area.
John worked with pro shop operator Mike McCracken of Ball Wizard Pro Shop in Syracuse to get a ball that was aggressive and would enable him to stand to the left and really hook the lane. John hooked him up with a Nexus Solid.
John threw 10 strikes in a row in his first game and then left a 10 pin that cost him perfection. He repeated his performance with 10 strikes in a row again. His third game started a bit rough with a strike and a spare, but then caught fire as he ran the next 10 strikes in a row one more time. His game scores were 289, 287, 289 for an astounding 865 series.
John throws 13 lb equipment and has scored three different 800 series with Brunswick equipment.
